Solarize Campaigns

WRCEP jump started solar development in Wallowa County with three solarize (bulk buy) campaigns between 2012-2015. The first campaign in 2012 was for solar hot water heating, in partnership with Mr. Sun Solar. Solar hot water uses collectors to heat water rather than make electricity and integrates with existing hot water systems in a home or business, offsetting the cost of heating the water using electricity or fossil fuel. The solar thermal campaign resulted in seven local solar hot water systems that offset over 40,000 kWh/year.

The next two Solarize campaigns, in 2014 and 2015, focused on photovoltaics in partnership with Enterprise Electric. WRCEP and Enterprise Electric hosted several informational sessions with a cumulative attendance of over 100 residents and farm and business owners. Those two campaigns  resulted together resulted to more than 40 projects being commissioned with a cumulative generation of approximately 200,000 kWh//year. These early campaigns directly helped establish local solar installation capacity and consumer confidence, launching an era of solar development in Wallowa County that actively continues to this day.
